Energize, soothe and seduce: the power of paint

By Clara Berta

I believe art has a great capacity for healing and promoting wellbeing. That’s why I am compelled to create works with harmonious layers of colour that sooth and energize. I take inspiration from nature: the movement of the ocean, the new growth of spring, a cleansing rainfall.

‘Magical Discovery’ captures a dynamic energy with bursts of colour. Each new painting is a discovery, a unique process from start to finish. Free from any preconceived notions about the outcome, what ends up on the canvas is an uninhibited expression of my personality, thoughts and emotions. This work reminds me of a flower reaching up towards the sun, a source of life.

Los Angeles fine art expert Terry Ellsworth once said visiting my gallery is like being underwater, surrounded by a calming and healing presence. ‘Below the Light’ encapsulates this restorative experience. Running through the soft layers of paint is a gentle current of tranquility. Through my technique of pouring and guiding the paint, I always try to create a sense of movement and flow.

MAC Fine Art represents a fantastic selection of artists. I’m often drawn to artists that share my sensibility for colour and the expressive potential of abstract painting. Sara Conca’s paints with such vitality and a love for colour. The work titled ‘Whimsical Fall’ makes me think of surrendering to the unknown and taking a leap of faith. It’s bright and full of energy, with a touch of chaos.

‘Voyager Two’ by Sara shares this same forward looking movement. The bold and daring red stretches out across the gentle blues, as if reaching out into the future. It captures the hope and excitement of new beginnings.

Bette Redigeway’s gestures are soothing and peaceful and her use of colour is vibrant and uplifting. I see the presence of nature in her paintings. ‘Upward Spiral’ reminds me of the bright colours I have been exploring in my studio this year, influenced by spring. There is a lightness created by balance of colour and negative space. ‘Seduction’ is perfectly titled – her use of colour is seductive, you can’t take your eyes away. The layered shapes are like leaves, dancing in a warm breeze.
