Kumari

KumariMartha Meagher (aka Kumari), has maintained a painting studio in India for the last 14 years. She is a recipient of the prestigious PAX CULTURA prize (2010), recognized for her contributions to art in India through her exhibitions.
She uses a combination of materials in her paintings, reflecting her training in painting as well as printmaking. She uses a reductive technique in her paintings, often adding paint and inks only to remove them partially to open up layers upon layers. Martha loves the spirit of the American abstract expressionists and has a lyrical colour play reminiscent of the renowned Helen Fankenthaler.

Returning from a Peace Corps stint in Ghana 20 years ago with her eyesight seriously compromised, Martha vowed to pursue painting full time if her eyesight returned. It did, and she did.
She has made good on her promise to paint, and has pursued colour, design, and techniques in thousands of ways. Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the world.
