In this powerful portrait of Marilyn Monroe, Horvath includes a cacophony of visual queues to portray this larger than life icon. Monroe’s film posters, magazine covers, and newspaper clippings converge to tell a story of both fame and tragedy. Included are references to her films The Girl Who Had Everything, A Star Is Born, and Some Like It Hot, alongside the infamous New York Mirror cover with the headline “MM AND MILLER CALL IT QUITS.” Fragments of various magazine covers and appropriated street posters featuring liquor ads create a gritty backdrop. The text “find film” and a bold graphic of a target further emphasize the narrative. To finish, a spray-painted stencil of Snow White sits atop a paper fragment covering the words “DRINK RESPONSIBLY,” with only “DRINK” and the letter “Y” exposed. The piece is completed with a flurry of expressive paint smears and drips, adding depth and raw emotion to this poignant tribute.
