The Godfather

Mixed Media on Canvas

60″ x 50″

In this compelling rendition of Marlon Brando as The Godfather, Horvath surrounds the central figure with a wealth of references from the original Godfather films. Key elements include the iconic Godfather logo, stills from The Godfather parts I & II, and portraits of Brando, Al Pacino, and Robert Duvall. The famous car explosion scene from Part I and Clemenza wielding a gun are also featured, alongside the bold text “THE MAN” placed strategically nearby. The composition is layered with found poster materials, including the phrases “MAKE HIM AN OFFER” and “INTRODUCING THE,” as well as multiple car images, evoking the many vehicles that played a role in the saga. A spray-painted skull adds an edgy touch, while shooting stars and an explosion of dripped, thrown, and sprayed paint infuse the work with energy. Completing the piece, “BRANDO” and “OG” (for “Original Gangster”) are stenciled up the sides of the canvas, further cementing the iconic status of both the actor and his legendary character.
